Golden Gate Civic Association Candidate Forum

Location: Golden Gate Community Center, 4701 Golden Gate Parkway, Naples, FL 34116

Rooms A/B will be used for casting ballots, run by the Supervisor of Elections (SOE). All attendees will be allowed one vote.

Hours: 6 pm to 8:30 pm

Voting: Voting will be allowed from 6:30 pm to 8:30 pm or until we have 800 ballots used, which ever happens first.

Purpose: The Golden Gate Candidate Forum is designed to allow all candidates that will be on the 4 mile square Golden Gate City ballot will have an opportunity to present themselves to the community.

Supervisor of Elections staff will be available for voter registration, vote by mail requests, or to update voter registrations. 

Details/Format:

  • No signs will be allowed to be posted to the walls. 8 ft. Tables will be placed around the auditorium in the old section of the community center where candidates will be able to post their material. The table will be shared with one other candidate (not in their race)
  • All candidates that will be on the Golden Gate City ballot will be allowed 2 minutes to tell their story.
  • Candidate Debate: District 3 candidates will be hosted on the stage. The moderator will ask all questions. Questions will be taken from the audience that will be written on 3 x 5 cards. Volunteers will take questions to the moderator. Questions given priority will be items specifically addressing Golden Gate issues.
    • Candidates will be allowed a 2 minute introduction.
    • Answers to questions from the moderator will be given one minute responses
    • If a candidate mentions another candidate, the candidate mentioned will be allowed a 30 response.
    • The Closing statement will be allowed one minute.
    • The timer will have a yellow light that will show when 30 seconds is remaining on the allotted time for opening statement. The red light ends to the comments. If a candidate goes beyond the time limit, they will be whacked with a cane or other method the moderator deems appropriate.
    • There will be no bitin’ scratchin’ or hittin’ below the belt.

Ballot Results will be given at the end of the meeting.
